About St. Luke's

St. Luke's is a Christian community seeking to grow both in membership and in relevance.  Here is a list of our attributes, which will provide some insight into who we are.  However, if you really want to know who we are and what we hold precious, please come and worship with us.

Our Mission Statement:

We recognize the unity of all things in God and commit ourselves to act as agents of reconciliation.

Our Core Values: St. Luke's Three Expressions of Christ:

  1. Intentional hospitality
  2. Intellectual freedom and diversity
  3. Respect for the dignity of every human being

The 4 Permissions:

At. St. Luke's, you have permission to:

  1. Say "No" to any request,
  2. Ask for what you need,
  3. Make mistakes,
  4. Question anything you have been taught or assumed to be true up until now.

St. Luke's can be described as:

  1. A community of spiritually progressive followers of Jesus of Nazareth using his teachings to change our own lives and the way we interact with others.
  2. Intellectually and theologically diverse. A safe place to ask hard questions, explore one's spirituality and challenge traditional assumptions.
  3. A welcoming, secure and supportive place for everyone regardless of their income, level of education, sexual orientation, race or religious background.
  4. Determined to make a positive difference in the lives of the people of Summit and Wasatch Counties.

The people of St. Luke's are working to build a vital, life-giving spiritual community that fully recognizes the diversity of ideas, theologies, beliefs, and opinions that exist whenever any group of people gather together. We want St. Luke's to be a place where disagreement is not seen as abnormal, unusual, or threatening, but an opportunity for listening, dialogue, and learning from one another.

We are serious students of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, our brother and Lord; however, we acknowledge the range of ideas and beliefs concerning who Jesus was and is that exist among us and we encourage everyone to think for him/herself.

Therefore, our unity as a congregation is not based upon all of us assenting to a list of doctrines or theological statements. Our unity is based upon our common love for God, our common desire to continue learning and growing in our relationships with God and one another, and in our common commitment to pray and worship with one another, especially when we disagree.

If you are open to seeing spirituality as a life-long adventure rather than assent to (saying you believe) a list of prescribed theological doctrines; if you are hungry to study the teachings of Jesus along with the wisdom teachings of other great world religions; if you want to see your children experience the love and nurturance of a Christian community that is committed to their spiritual and emotional safety and development, please visit St. Luke's. Please worship with us. You are welcome among us!
