St. Luke's Vestry Nomination Form:

Who Among Us is Called?

We are striving to create an open and welcoming spiritual community.  In keeping with this philosophy, the Rector and Vestry would like the process of nominating men and women to serve on the St. Luke’s Vestry to be as open and transparent as possible.

It all begins with prayer.  Please ask the Lord if perhaps you are being called to serve or if someone you know is being called.  Anyone is free to nominate him or herself.  Anyone is free to nominate any other member of our spiritual community after permission from the potential nominee has been obtained.

In your discernment process around who you believe may be called of the Lord to serve on the St. Luke’s Vestry, please keep in mind that the functions of the St. Luke’s Vestry are primarily:

  1. 1.To pray with and for one another.

  2. 2.Labor to accurately discern the leadership of the Holy Spirit as members work together with the Rector to cast a vision for the life and development of our spiritual community.

  3. 3.Teaching and modeling the practice of our Principles of Community is also a key function of each Vestry member.

  4. 4.Service on the Vestry is not about “being in charge.”  It is about humility, spiritual discernment, teaching healthy communication skills, and a passion for God’s work and God’s people.

Therefore, as you pray about who is being called to serve in parish leadership, keep in mind the criteria for “a communicant in good standing” (Constitutions & Canons, Title I, Canon 17, Section 3) in the Episcopal Church.  These criteria are:

  1. “Faithful in corporate worship” which is interpreted to mean that the person attends church the majority of Sundays at St. Luke’s and, when on the road, at another Episcopal Church;

  2. “Faithful in working and praying” which operationally means the person is active in at least one of the ministries of the parish such as teaching in the Church School or coordinating a ministry, or some other form of active involvement;

  3. “Faithful in giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God” meaning that the person should be someone who has completed a financial pledge card and has demonstrated consistency in following through on their financial commitment to God through support of the life of our spiritual community.

  4. There has been a period of at least four years since the nominee’s last service on the vestry.

Do these qualities describe the person I want to nominate? Is the person willing to live, teach and model the St. Luke's Principles of Community?   Please pray and seek the Lord's guidance concerning who among us is being called to serve as spiritual leaders among us.

I have read and understand the expectations of a member of the St. Luke's Vestry.  I have obtained the permission of the following person and wish to nominate him/her for election to the Vestry during the 2010 St. Luke's Annual Celebration on January 31st.
