Saint Luke’s Park City has adopted the Saint Luke’s Medical Clinic in Myitkyina as part of our International Missions program. The Diocese of Myitkyina is located in the most northern province of Myanmar/Burma. This area is East of India/Bangladesh; South of Himalayas/China, and West of Laos/Thailand. The diocese has over 20 parishes and the northern most one is so remote it takes Bishop David one day by car and 3 more days by elephant to reach it.
Myitkyina is one of the poorest countries in the world. The Diocese of Utah has adopted the Diocese of Myitkyina as a sister Diocese. Bishop David of Myitkyina hosted a group from Utah including our Bishop and Roger and Harriet Stephens from Saint Luke’s.
Since then our church decided to do its own outreach and adopt the Saint Luke’s Medical Clinic there.
This Diocesan Medical Clinic offers medical help to people who can’t get care anywhere else. Our support is vital to Bishop David and the people of Miytkyina. Our dollars are worth 10 times more in this poor country and we make a HUGH impact by our support.
This program represents our local effort to support the United Nations Millennium Development Goals that the Episcopal Church has pledged to support.
