MEETING MINUTES OF THE ST. LUKE’S

GULF COAST RECOVERY MISSION DEVELOPMENT TEAM

At our 1st meeting on 1/30 we discussed:

•a summary of the 35 surveys submitted by congregation members; key points include: 16 respondents want to attend a trip in 2009; a fairly even split of respondents desiring  a trip in April, June, and Fall; 15 respondents indicate they can cover their own expenses on a trip; 16 respondents indicate they can provide financial support for scholarships

•options for 2009 mission trips: # of trips; possible sites; etc.

•travel options

•financing and fund raising

•assignments for next meeting: investigate options for trips to other Gulf locations (Lee); available

openings at LESM in Long Beach MS for April, June, and Fall (Jay)

  1. set 2/10 for our 2nd meeting

At our 2/10 meeting we discussed:

•Lee updated us on his investigation into opportunities for trips to other locations, e.g. Texas; LESM only operates in MS; Habitat for Humanity is building homes for hurricane relief but has no housing for volunteers; HfH works with the Salvation Army in some fashion

•Jay advised the team on his review of the LESM calendar and his call with Michael Magargel at LESM regarding openings in the Fall; at this time there are ample openings for the week of April 12, June, October, and November

•Based on the information above the team has decided to fore go a trip to Texas in 2009

•Based on survey results we suggest two trips in 2009, probably in April and November

•Jay will look into flight costs in April and N November in order to have information available for discussion at the Exec. Missions Mtg on 2/22

  1. Jay will contact M. Magargel regarding the possibility of working 4/14-17 versus a normal Monday thru Thursday

The team asks Charles to weigh in with any comments or suggestions we should consider prior to our 2/22 meeting.  Based on Charles' comments, we will either meet after the 2/22 meeting or set a time prior to that session.  If I have omitted anything from these notes, please advise.

Thanks, Jay
